De-Brooding Chickens

I guess it's one way of de-brooding them.  One of the many unexpected benefits of chainsaws in the backyard.
De-brooded chickens once more roaming the backyard

Guess I'm not the only one excited about it

Predator in the hiding

Some things don't change though - Miss Nutmeg still persists in laying amongst the pebbles

Sewing an XBox Cover

Joining Rhonda from Down To Earth with her regular Friday On My Mind Feature.  Modified this pattern to stitch up a cover for the XBox.  I think my maths was a bit off.  It's too short!  Thinking about sewing a skirt for it - might be a bit too girly for it though.

A Repurposed Single Bed

This garden bench was originally a single bed.  I found my inspiration from here.  Painted it white and voila - garden bench.  Trimmed with rice sacks stuffed with old pillows.

Let My Teaching Fall Like Rain

Homemade Sandwich Wrap

Days are getting warmer here in Sydney so I decided to stitch a sandwich wrap for Philippa following these instructions with a few modifications because the plastic wrap that I had wasn't large enough to fit the 30cmx30cm size of the cloth I cut.
Cut 2 pieces of Cloth to size (30cmx30cm)

Right sides together, with plastic sandwiched in between, stitch 4 edges leaving a hole on 1 edge to turn out

Turn inside out

Stitch edges again to reinforce

I sewed velcro on opposite ends of 1 side and snap on buttons on other sides.

Velcro closed.

See how because the wrap isn't square that I needed to modify it so that it would sit nicely after closing?

Closed sandwich wrap.

Make Do Play

Creative play requires that you find other purposes for ordinary things.
Small container as workspace - you never have enough when you're baking up a frenzy!

Little scrap piece of cloth acts as towel in the bath.  Cotton cleaning wipe is a cushion.

Home stitched blanket for bunny to rest on

Who would've thought that scrunchies (hair ties) can double up as bean bags whilst watching TV.  Bangles as home decor - really radical!

This moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.  As featured on soulemama

Shade for the chicken coop

Joining Rhonda from Down To Earth with her regular Friday On My Mind Feature.  Now that the trees have been pruned and removed, the vegetable garden is flooded with light... but then so is the chicken coop.  Some sort of shade is required with the weather warming up to give the girls some relief from the afternoon sun.  So shade is on my mind... any suggestions?  Currently there is a passionfruit vine just growing over a section of it but I'm not sure it will be adequate.

Unsuccessful Fruit Fly Trap

In our efforts to decrease the number of flies in the backyard, we put up a few different contraptions.  The fly paper was a hit.  This one was a miss.

Garden Tidy Up

The garden was getting overgrown and some of the trees have now resulted in too much shade for the vegetable patch in the back so it needed trimming.  Whilst that was being done, there were other palms that I decided did nothing to the general aesthetic of the garden, so they had to go.  After consultation with Council and some arborist quotes, the result.  I'm still trying to get used to all that light... I might yet regret it in summer when shade is such a blessing.

Before - Palm Tree.

Goings On

Rat that Tilly caught a few days back made an unceremonious appearance again and this time it was quickly disposed of by yours truly into the compost bin

Nutmeg is officially un-broodified - the others have decided to go broody on us which equates to our current eggless state
