Sunflowers and Tilly

Received a pot of sunflowers for my birthday. Tilly sat beside them and posed.  She is my ray of sunshine most days.  A real blessing.

Today I

Planted up a repurposed thrifted glass bowl (painted) and found a colourful beetle in amongst my potted plants.

First concert

John Mayer 24th April 7pm All Phones Arena with Sammy G.

A wedding quilt

I have stuck with what I know - squares. Using up leftover scraps. Planning to attempt the quilt as you go method with fleece as batting and a flat sheet as backing.  Risky I know...seeing the wedding is only a month away and I haven't ever properly done one with sashing before.  There's a first for everything.  Courage and abandon is required.

Refreshing to the soul with great teaching, family time and good friends.

Currently loving the look of monochromatic sketches of pictures taken recently.  A different perspective is nice sometimes.

Inhabitants of the new hutch

The new hutch now houses my owl collection amongst other things.

Outside my window.  It's been a wet start to autumn. The garden is grateful as am I.   There are dire predictions of a long hot and dry summer ahead so I will enjoy the rain whilst it's here.

Hutch for corner with leadlight door

Nearly done. Just needs shelving and molding on top to finish.

A hutch for this corner

The newspaper magazine stand will be replaced by a hutch being built to accommodate the leadlight cupboard door gifted to me by a friend.  Planning to move my owl collection here, amongst other things.

Tying up loose ends

Literally.   The cords from Ethan's roman blinds have been rather crudely tied together and I needed something to tidy them up that had some weight to it but didn't want it too solid in case it hit against the glass window.  I looked for custom acorns for this purpose but couldn't find them in Lincraft or Bunnings so I had to modify something to suit the purpose.  Cupboard knobs came to mind but they were too large and I needed something hollow to hide the knotted end.  Enter rubber cups for chair feet. Perfect.  Another project finished.

Gifted cupboard door

From a friend's kitchen.  She removed them (there is a leadlight door as well which I have plans for elsewhere) from a cupboard to make room for a new fridge. Painted and changed the knob.  Covers bottom half of the DVD cabinet.

Changing the welcome

With the cut out bunnies (touch of whimsy), my favourite owls (a sample), and a pop of pink from orchids.

Roman blinds from roller blinds

Finished just in time for Ethan's return from camp. I took off the old roller blind, re-used the block out fabric as lining for the new fabric (ebay find - from an interior designer with bolts of curtain fabric). Added rings, old venetian blind cords, stapled it to wood and screwed the wood piece onto the window frame. Took a while to rejig it to make it work and the rubbery block out fabric was a pain to sew with but overall I am pleased.   All that's required now is acorns to tidy up the cords and another cleat.  Apologies for the dark pics. I didn't finish til late in the afternoon and didn't take pics til after dark.

A place for mail

Never could work out what to do with incoming mail which I had read but Frank hadn't.  It used to just end up on the dining table or side buffet.  So after some thinking, I moved the timber calendar and replaced it with a homemade mail caddy from things scrummaged from around the house. Completed it with Chinese zodiac animals corresponding to the year we were born.  And added Tilly into the mix. After all, she is family.

Tidying up and finishing

Have always wanted to finish up Ethan's bed and tidy it up so this week whilst he's away on camp was the perfect time.  Blinds need to be repurposed from roller to romans - still to do. I have 2 days!

An incentive to save our pennies

I was cleaning out Ethan's room whilst he is away on camp and find this. I emptied all its contents out, went to the bank to exchange it all for notes (which I think Ethan would much prefer) and claimed it for my own use.  Did away with the drab savings jar and replaced it with this happy chappy.  Turns out his black and white loveliness is a match for the room!
