Marina Bay Sands

The imposing feature of the Singapore skyline - the Marina Bay Sands Hotel
The view from our hotel room - the Garden By the Bay near completion
Our luxurious bathroom
Just a tad nippy when you're swimming in the Infinity Pool on Level 57
Close to the edge of the world...quite a scary experience!
Courtesy of a family friend, we got to experience 5 star luxury in the Marina Bay Sands Hotel for one night. It was an experience to remember.

Safe Arrival In Singapore

Sleeping with cousin Nadine and catching up on goss...

We arrived safely in Singapore and settled in for the night after a scrumptious chicken rice dinner at the airport and awoke in the early hours of the morning to a DimSum breakfast.

Tippy - the new addition

We've added another member to our growing menagerie.  Tippy the Siamese fighting fish - you can just make him out in the rather badly taken photo.  Pip was adamant that even though Tippy sounded rather girlish, it suited him...He currently resides in a little plastic purple tank on her desk.

The Stockings Are Filled

The Stockings are filled.  Homemade stockings with thrifted doilies added to resemble snow flakes.  I think I should've followed a pattern when making these.  They don't quite sit right.  O well, adds to their charm.  This year I thought we'd do the whole Christmas thing a day or 2 before the actual Christmas day because in years past, Christmas day has always been a whirlwind with church and extended family activities which leave me too exhausted to enjoy Christmas just with our family.

Grandchildren Photo Blocks

Stuck for gift ideas for grandparents I trawled the net to find inspiration and found just the thing at iheartnaptime
Photos edited with Picassa to turn them into black and white - then modge podged onto wooden blocks

Another side of the blocks

Chinese Zodiac Year in which the grandkids were born on another side - final side had their names and birthdates on it.

Hunter Valley Weekend

Our weekend in the Hunter Valley didn't just involve the wedding.  We tried to include some of the more child friendly activities to make it memorable for the kids.  Since wine tasting was off the menu, we instead did the following...
A farm stay where Pip was ecstatic to be granted her own double bed to sleep on - Ethan gallantly slept on the couch

The glorious view from the veranda of our 2BR cabin

Farm stay complete with local alpacas (newly shorn) - brown one named Eugene was Pip's favourite

Visiting neighbour's dog aptly named 'Grog' to suit the region

Pip had a close encounter with her favourite animal right now - she's horse mad - living up to her name!

Angora goats were friendly too.

A visit to the local Hunter Valley Gardens Lolly shop didn't go amiss

And to cap it all off - a visit to the famous Hunter Valley Gardens where I was enchanted by the Story Book Garden

Jack and Jill taking a tumble down the hill.

Tea with the Mad Hatter and Alice

Oriental garden with bubbling brook and stepping stones

A Hunter Vallery Wedding

Lovely stone and woodwork

In the small charming rustic chapel where the vows were exchanged

Dressed up in all our finery

Peppers Creek Chapel

The bell that was rung after the wedding

The lovely little village with some quaint shops

The night time reception was at the Barrel Room complete with wine barrels

Table setting with magnificent candelabras for a gorgeous ambience

Listening to the speeches.  Lights through the soft white drapes
We were invited to a wedding in the Hunter Valley over the weekend which is famous for its vineyards.  It was a rustic setting with lots of old style charm.

At Last

A perfect strawberry from our very own berry patch which Pip ensures me tastes SO much better than the store bought variety!

Passing it on

To my great delight Pip has decided to tackle knitting project all by herself (although I did help to cast on and had to re-work some stitches), she's persevered despite a few mishaps along the way.  All a learning experience.  I'm crocheting a summer cap with leftover yarn from another project.  She knits, I crochet...

Of Chickens and Eggs

Chickens are strange creatures.  This lot that we have certainly are.  The last lot of bantam Australorps were a lot more reliable - both in laying and choice of laying spots.  Since this lot's last bout of broodiness, they've opted to lay in anywhere but the nesting box.

Nutmeg still persisting in hatching pebbles.  I spy with my little eye something beginning with B...

Yup, Butterball decided to lay amongst the pebbles too...

Can you spot the chicken?

There she is in the bag of sawdust...

And there's the egg she's laid afterwards...

Sleeping Beauties

2 sleeping beauties on our bed.  Pip is modelling a larger version of the cardigan I crocheted for my niece
