River rock hooks

Frank requested a river rock coat hanger. I googled it and set about bringing it to reality.  The hardest part was trying to figure out a way to attach the rocks to the backing board because they needed to sit a little way out to allow good leverage for coats. I used epoxy glue to attach end plugs for garden irrigation hosing. I am still not entirely convinced they will stay put. Time will tell.

Ikea Bersgbo doors

Fitted. Still in two minds about knobs or handles.

The landing corner

With the old wardrobe now moved.to the guest room, this corner was prime as a landing corner where keys, mail could be dropped off upon entry into the house. Stuff which usually lands on the dining table.  I am not sure about the barstools which have been moved from the other side of the room.  I have thought about adding a standing height table in the corner.  Still to decide.

Entertainment of a different variety

This entertainment unit doesn't get used and having sold my sewing table I thought I would convert it into a sewing station. Turns out the pine cupboard outside which used to live in the laundry is a perfect fit.  I took the doors off and then the backing board to allow easy power board access. I will need to add a pull out shelf so the sewing machine can slide out when I need to use it. To be continued...

The day after the once in a century storm

We came out on the other side unscathed.  I am grateful.  Tilly enjoying the sunset and the crisp clean air.

Progress on the complicated shuffle

Today I made a conscious decision to turn the single cupboard into a broom/vacuum/ironing storage area.  And I added a drawer and altered the configuration of the soon to be pantry cupboard still left in the guestroom.

Contentedness

Tilly shows me daily...the need to wind down to slow down and just be.

A complicated shuffle

Required a fair bit of planning and motivation on my part but I set about finishing it in part even if it meant that I couldn't actually get to the finished product in one sitting.  Consider it phase 1. Phase 2 necessitates a trip to Ikea and spending money so I want to hold it off for as long as possible.  I moved the little white side table next to Nellie, then moved the recycled wood side table next to its sister on Frank's side of the bed.  Whilst there I ticked off a project I had put off, namely drill a hole to the back of my bedside table so I could charge my phone and ipad in the drawer instead of on top.  Then I moved the half wardrobe from the guestroom next to the one in the dining area. Eventually the other Pax wardrobe will be moved to where the fridge is and I will have a full bank of storage there.  I will then move the old vintage wardrobe into the guest room. That's the plan anyway.

Hand towels from bath towel

So now I have 2 sets of 4 hand towels - one for upstairs and the other for downstairs.  Edged with linen binding.  Relinquishing the older stained ones to the rag pile.

Plans for a set of towels

That Frank didn't particularly fancy...he reckons they don't dry him well.  So I have plans to cut them up to turn them into hand towels.  That's the plan...

Spring in the backyard

A few updated corners and still some to do...the tidying and spruce up is getting there

We mulched

Front and back garden beds.  As it's predicted to be a hot long spring-summer I hope it will help the garden cope better.  4 cubic metres of leaf mulch.  I love the organic smell of it.

A problem and a solution

This section of the gutters lacks a downpipe and since the garden spruce up a solution was required to reduce the amount of splashing. I am hoping to divert the run off into the garden bed on the right instead of just running down the hill. After a visit to Bunnings to get downpipe and fittings...no more splashing.

Finishing the outside cupboard

I never did like louvres on doors. Especially fixed ones which are impossible to clean. So this project on the cupboard outside wasn't finished until now. I took the boards which were blocking the bottom half of the rumpus window, cut them to size and fitted them on top of the louvres. Finished.

Perspective

With all the violence and gloom in the news of late, I am almost tempted to retreat into a world which is kinder, so I savour these moments of quiet where one can just live in the moment and not focus too much on the cares of what may be in the future.

Garden spring clean

Still much to do but it's a start

Garden spring clean update

One side done...decided to just move plants around, mulch and tidy up. The other side will suffer the same fate.  Hoping to get most of the hard digging work done before the weather gets too warm.
