Christmas scenes 2012

We were reacquainted with cousins
We noted that the 'Octopus' we had used in Christmases past seems to have 'lost' 2 of its legs... hence it was re-named the 'Hexapus'.
Tilly reacquaints herself with members of the family - first daddy...
Then Philippa...
So comfy...
Yes... most certainly a time to reacquaint ourselves with all things great and small...

A different light

We're lighting candles...
Counting our blessings
Marvelling that when you learn to strip things back to bare essentials...
That amid all the colour that is associated with the season, there is loveliness even in a black and white world...
You need only take the time to step back from the distractions and choose to focus on the essentials.
Blessings to you this season.

Missing family

My family have returned to sunny Singapore once more after a whirlwind 10 days' visit in Sydney. It's been lovely spending time with them. I miss them dearly. Especially my little nephew and niece (seen here in a pic I took of them with Pip during our trip to Singapore in September). Photo's a bit grainy - I think I had the settings wrong but it's a lovely pic of the 3 of them.

A First...

We spent one day visiting the Train Shed out in Luddenham as little cousin Nathan was a big Thomas the Tank Engine fan... None of us had ever been so it was a first for all of us...
Thomas was in service that day.  James and Toby were having a well deserved rest.
All set?
Off we go as we wave farewell to the crowds at the station...
Even older cousins had a go... this time on Gordon...
One more ride on Gordon before we headed home...
Back to the apartment to cool off in the pool on the 61st floor!
and then more time with grandpa and grandma...

Family Time

My family came over to Sydney this year from Singapore to pay us a visit.  We've had a lovely time bonding...

We ate at the Fish Markets
Spent time just chilling with cousins at the Meriton Serviced Apartments in the city
Spent time in the Powerhouse Museum
Loads of fun in the playground
Spent some time at the Aquarium
Then walked across to visit...
The Wildlife Park - see the butterfly?
Back to the apartment to chill with grandpa and grandma for a well earned rest.

All Grown Up

The curling iron is ready for the real deal tonight...

We curl and then hairspray...

See the curls?

Then a little bit of make up...

Done... thinking wistful thoughts as we wave goodbye to primary school

All set for the big night - Farewell Dinner at the local Country Club

A Practice Run

For the Year 6 Farewell... where "bows" are the order of the day

Re-purposed storage

Long bench seat (with storage) under the back veranda - built from MDF panels and T&G panelling (all recycled)

Another cupboard for storage (all recycled wood even the top section.)  Undecided as to whether I should paint it all white or not.

Bunnies have been moved to under the veranda (out of the sun in time for summer).  Still some leftover MDF panels left to build shelving for study.

Where's Tilly?

Guess where I am?

In an unused pot lazing of course...

Early Christmas Present For Ethan...

After 2 years of this...

We are now free from the 'chains' that bind... just the retainers now - much less discomfort we hope...

December happenings...

Another project in the making... at some stage the projects will need to take a backseat to festivities - there's only so much mess (inevitable when projects happen around here) that I can handle when there are guests to entertain...

Recycling what we already have on hand to add some cheer to the household...

Last year's Advent calendar resurrected.  Each day with a little bauble that is hung on the little tree (see next pic) in the entry

Baubles added (2).

Tea light tree in the formal lounge...

Fresh flowers

as a thank you gift.  There's nothing quite like them.

More re-organizing and building

Cleaned out another section of the garden (next to the back veranda) - planning to move the bunny cage to this area as it's always shaded.

Built another cupboard for storage of gardening things - needs a door.  Mostly reconstructed from recycled materials and ebay buys.  Hoping that it will all be sorted before spring's end when it will be too hot to work in the garden.

Tilly these days...

is still the delight that she is... framed by the neighbour's Jacaranda tree that's been flowering.

These days...

With all that's been happening with the new ceilings and the re-organizing of the room, there's been a renewed flurry of organizing happening on a smaller scale and re-modelling of furniture to deal with storage issues.

The furniture has been moved about, new vignettes done

This one a favourite of mine

The orange pine bookcase was painted antique white and doors (bought second hand off ebay) added.

This old tea trolley (another ebay buy) used to house our shoes outside, has been moved in to house the DVDs temporarily until I find a better home for them.

I built a new storage bench seat with MDF wardrobe doors that I found off ebay for a steal.  At the moment this stores all my power tools and sundries.
There's more to do yet but I need to work at a pace that suits the end of year flurry of activities with school things I'm afraid... and because I'm trying to re-use as much of what I already have lying around and only buy new if I have to, it's going slowly...
