Passionfruit Harvest

I've only been harvesting the ones that have dropped off the vine - only a faint hint of yellow

Faint hint of yellow - I was hesitant thinking that they weren't quite ripe - but after I cut into one I was rewarded with lovely orange pulp!

Laden with fruit - we might get a harvest after all!

  1. Oh I am so glad - there is nothing quite like fresh passionfruit. I love your passionfruit dangling from the wire support. I tried to do that, but our support was not strong enough, and the vine was a total mess, the holes were not big enough for the small passionfruit to fit through. A failed experiment - so now I know what it would have looked like if it worked. :0

    1. The support was an ebay score - it was originally old fencing panels that had rusted on the bottoms. I used some of them to fence off the veggie patch from the chickens and the rest I put over the coop. The original wooden lattice was too thick for the tendrils to grip. This was just perfect. I must say that fresh passionfruit is addictive... can't stop at one.

  2. Yours seem more elongated than mine, but maybe they get that way as they ripen? Mine are definitely still green.

    1. They aren't that banana yellow that I was expecting. They seem to come in all shapes - some smaller and some longer and larger. I haven't harvested any off the vine, just the ones that were dropping off. I might just try taking one off that looks like the stalk's shrivelling and chop it open to see if it's ready. I was told by a lady that had hers in her backyard that the lack of sun this summer is the reason why they aren't as yellow as they should be(?) - not sure how true it is.
