Whimsy

Cut out some bunnies on a card that arrived in the mail...just the the ticket for a bit of whimsy to greet visitors.  They look like they are waving a friendly greeting.

The autumn quilt finished

Bound and ready to be gifted to an orange loving girl.

Going with the new pink theme

Decided to tackle a smaller project after finishing the autumn orange toned quilt. Leftover remnants of a quilt cover. Utilized the existing button closure and added fun pompom fringing.

A thrifted mug

I like drinking from mugs. Even when I drink tea. Not terribly genteel but it's practical.  So when I spied this sizeable mug in a colour that I fancied for the princely sum of $1, it came home with me.

The autumn quilt

Is nearly there. For a girl who loves orange.  Tempered with green accents and it will be backed in mustard velour. Very thin flannel as batting.  Testing out the quilt as you go method even though with hindsight this method works better for smaller pieces of material. I think it needs some edging material to frame it and make it just that much wider. Never worked with a colour such as orange but am glad that I was given the opportunity to!

A change

The soft glow of candles soothes the soul even if it is a bit out of character to have them at breakfast.

Pretty in the laundry

The laundry window was rather stark and I did have a walking stick that someone had whittled that was a serendipitous find on one if Ethan's bushwalks lying in the backyard and leftover voile fabric from Pip's room curtain so I set about making a tab tie curtain with calico tape.  I am rather pleases with the result. Let's hope Tilly doesn't mistake it for a new toy.

Mochi

Homemade.  Even the red bean paste.   The glutinous rice dough didn't turn out as I would've liked.   The one saving grace is the lovely shade of celadon green that was achieved. At least it's nice to look at. Not quite sweet enough for me. Next time maybe.

Coping

Without the breadmaker. The hand kneading takes a bit of effort.  The results are not as polished as with the breadmaker but it probably just needs more practice on my part to get the dough right. I am still holding off buying a replacement appliance...watch this space.

A new but old table piece

I took one of the artificial orchids from the top of the piano and put it on the dining table.  Took a pic on the phone and gave it a washed out look and made it look all the more artistic.

First batch

Of bread rolls done in the old fashioned way due to the demise of my breadmaker.  I think I need to knead it for longer but it didn't turn out too bad. Will hold off buying a countertop mixer for a bit...

Decluttering the pantry

One of those 'I'll do it some day' tasks but the urge to declutter and simplify is still simmering within so whilst the urge is still strong I set upon to tackle the less than desirable task.  What's more it meant that I could use up all those jars I have saved and kill 2 birds with one stone and free up space in the cupboard which hides them at the moment.   I was so enthused I neglected to take a Before pic but I did snap an After.

Death of an appliance

The Aldi bought breadmaker has served us well. This morning when I tried to make pizza dough with it, the motor wouldn't budge so I am assuming that the motor has died.  I ended up having to hand knead the dough. I will see how I fare without it although I have been lusting after a countertop mixer for a while now.  We'll see...
