Moving furniture decluttering

It would appear that the decluttering and tidying up and building in Pip's room has resulted in a spillover effect to the rest of the house. After all there is leftover paint and that won't do. So in the adjoining dining area in the house, I moved the old cupboard to where the buffet used to be and started to paint the orange pine buffet and in the interim declutter as I went along.  It looks so much better already!

Door to jewellery cupboard

Glued old mirror to tongue and groove panels which neighbour had decided to throw out and got rid of plastic fake trim and added clear wood trim to match rest of the room.  The means to keep door shut stumped me because  I couldn't add a knob as it would stick out too much and knock against the wardrobe door when it was open so I settled for a makeshift latch using one of Pip's key chains that were hanging about.

More improvements to Pip's room

The flip down over bed desk that I built for Ethan suffered the same fate as Pip's overbed table.  Although I must add that the existing wall flip down table did get used (much excitement for me).  So I decided to modify the shelving and added it to Pip's room as a storage solution to her ever growing collection of jewellery. The mirror will get reattached to a door so it double functions.  Here it is without the door which is being constructed.

Repairing a fraying quilt

The problem with using fabric bought from thrift stores is that sometimes you end up with fabric worst for wear and it doesn't help that Tilly likes to dig her claws into it now and again before napping.  So a quilt repair was called for and a new binding just for good measure to tie in with the reversion to pink being in favour again.

Feeding hungry teens

It's been a real test of my ingenuity to keep the teens in our household fed and fed well.  When they come home from school they crave a high carb 'snack' and I say that in jest because to my adult eyes it looks suspiciously more like a meal portion!  So here's my solution for this week at least.  I contemplated buying lovely little glass square containers for easier stacking in the fridge but I found these clay pots in amongst my crockery and decided to trial them and see how the troops take to this new kind of eating first before investing in a more permanent solution to storing quick heat meals.  Forgot to add that the meal is spiral pasta with grated carrot, beef mince and mushroom soup sauce.with a sprinkle of parsley.

This morning

On my daily commute (the two legged version) walking Pip partway to school, I walk past the once trickling creek now transformed to a gushing river due to the weekend rain (glorious sound) and I paused when I spied a hint of red on the nature verge.  Autumn is nigh.

Colours of autumn quilt

In the making.   Have yet to decide on some of it but it's for a young lady who loves orange tones.

With the arrival of the purchased hardware, we've finished the flip down wall table.

More touches to Pip's room

A pin board from another part of the house, a magnetic knife rack that I had bought years ago drom IKEA but never got around to using and it becomes a functional desk area. Now I am just waiting for the brackets I bought online to arrive which would allow us to hold the table up when needed.

Finishing touches to Pip's room

Just a few things to finish up.  Moved this old CD storage from the study, painted it and added knobs to store all her stationary.

Modification of the overbed table

As it turns out the initial euphoria of having solved the homework table in Pip's room was dealt a blow when reality didn't match the expectation.  So we turn it into a flip down table in the interim until such time as the need for one surfaces.

Vignette on the shoe cupboard

Now that it's been given a new lease of life, I had some fun putting a vignette together from existing items around the house. A soothing palette to greet guests.as they enter the house.

The modified shoe cupboard

Took a while but I finally got around to modifying the shoe cupboard (old shoe cupboard) which kept tipping over when we opened it.  Added depth to it so that we could put shoes in flat instead of angled like before.  Painted it and all it needs now are knobs.

Sleepy Tilly

She can be a rascal sometimes but times like these melt me.

Contentment

Can be found in the most surprising of places... today it peeped out from the sound of rain falling gently...and the click click of my knitting needles from the homespun wool...blessings from above.

Lunchbox snacks

It's hard to fill the teenage lunchbox with healthy snacks and I find that what worked last week may not this week as their taste changes like the wind.  Pip requested for Nature Valley Honet Oat Bars which we sampled on our holiday to Singapore so I attempted a homemade version.   Worked last week and she asked for more this week again.  So I obliged.
