Tweaking...

When reality doesn't quite match up with the planning... we tweak... so the desk has been moved next to Old Nellie...

And the bookshelf to where the desk was originally supposed to be... and I took the opportunity to go through the books and donate some to our local op shop.

Much better...

Even more doing...

Yes I've been busy... I hope I can keep this up and tick more things off the 'to do' list...

This desk used to reside in Ethan's room.  He's never ever used it... he prefers sitting on his bed doing his work with the laptop table conveniently handy... so I emptied it of its contents (moved most of it into the bookcase with a door and threw out some things) and Ethan and I moved it downstairs...

This old blackwood chair was bought second hand off ebay - it doesn't have a seat pad.  I decided to cut out a piece of old ply (from the chicken coop demolition) to fit... I think it needs a bit more bracing... not sure about the whitewash colour... it will take my weight but it feels a bit saggy in the middle still... will have to work something out...

The dilemma...

Despite all my efforts, the roof trellis holding up the passionfruit which used to be stabilised by the pickets and chicken coop has a precarious tilt to it... I've been wanting to take it down and just have a trellis fence with the passionfruit growing on it but the fact that the vine is laden with unripened fruit is putting me off... do I risk taking it down and losing the bulk of the crop or do I try to shore it up more and wait till I harvest this crop before cutting it back and fixing the trellis?

More doing...

Frank had brought this plant home in a pot claiming that it was a Pink Guava Tree that someone had given him.  It's been sitting in its pot  for weeks... since I had moved the pot with the Mandevilla to the front porch, there was now room for it to be planted in the ground...

It's quite a pretty plant (tree) in its own right.  I'm still wondering which variety it is - 'pink' guava - maybe it's the Hawaiian Guava?

The doing... and the completing...

I find it so much more interesting planning something than actually doing it... and I find that if in the process of the 'doing' I get sidetracked starting something else... well... the 'to do' list then just never really has things crossed off it... it just grows ever longer... and the length of it can get so overwhelming that you don't even know where to begin!  So I decided this year, in amongst all the 'requests' from the kids (Pip's double bed remember?) and needful things (like taking up new winter school trousers in readiness for the colder months), I needed to not just 'do' but to also 'complete'.  Then at least the house won't be cluttered with unfinished projects...
The front porch before...

I finally got around to hanging that plywood cutout... and moved the variegated Mondo to flank either side of it

Which meant that there were no plants next to the bench.  So I moved the climbing Mandevilla from the backyard (you can just see it in front of the old chicken coop - Here).  I had to divide it into 2 plants - not sure if it was a good idea but I'm hoping that I didn't do too much damage and they'd survive.  I think the stakes are too high - I might shorten them - not completely sure yet...

Moved the Liriope to the other side of the front door to balance it out a bit - there were no plants there before...

The final look...

The front porch with plants

The front porch now with plants.  I opted for the non-fussy Liriope and Ophiopogon (aka Mondo grass) - the variegated form.  Foliage effects that should offer cheer right through the seasons.

Another 'nearly done' project

After much mulling, I decided to cut some of arms of the 'bench' off so that it sits easily under the sill of the kitchen window.  I think I will add some wood to the back as well to make it look more like a 'bench'.  There's still so many projects to do... and sometimes the length of it just dampens the spirits.  Yet here's the thing... changing your perspective so that you focus on the 'done' rather than the 'to do' is the better way.

The ladder bench seat

After painting with leftover white paint and utilizing more scrap wood, and then purchasing some lockable castors from Bunnings which were on special, I ended up with this.  I'm not completely happy with it.  It looks more like a painter's scaffold than a bench seat.  Still, it is sturdy - used the brackets removed from the garage shelving from here.  I'll need to mull over it more to see what else I can do with more scraps to make it more presentable - maybe add a back to it.  Right now I'm seeing 'industrial' but not 'chic'... not yet anyway.

More projects...

Philippa pronounced that she wanted a 'bigger bed' for her room.  Not that she really 'needed' one... I think it's the fact that she has a lot of stuff (pillows and the like) on it that necessitates a 'bigger bed'.  We had to settle for a double - even though it will take up a lot of space... I had to talk her down from a queen - which would've engulfed the whole living space... purchased this second hand off ebay with money acquired from selling some other things around the house... looks like the furniture in her room needs to be reshuffled again to make room for this...

This was a ladder that you can see here which I used as a shelf.  It was an old timber ladder that someone threw out during council pick up and I brought it home.  I decided to take it off the fence and build something out of it... A fancy bench maybe?  Needs a paint first.

At least she does eat some of it... I had to dispose of the carcase when she was done...not my favourite thing to do...

Gentle Rain

We've been getting a fair bit of it since we got back from Easter camp.  Autumn has finally arrived methinks.  Bringing with her gentle rain.  Much needed relief from the heat of summer and the dryness.  My camellias are thankful.  As am I.

Another project off the list...

Remember this door?  Well it's now complete and fitted onto Ethan's bookcase.  Hopefull it means there's less dust on the contents as a result.  I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.  There will be another reshuffle of furniture as I attempt to deepclean his room, declutter and re-organize the contents.

Where we were at Easter weekend

Pip's first Teens Camp (House Party).  Frank and I were camp 'parents'.  God's Truth Interacting Today's Youth.  Much learning, much reflection, much fellowship as we remember His supreme sacrifice for us at Easter.
