No, not another door

But one I had intended to form part of the side gate to our house.  It was bought off ebay and has been sitting around all that time.  I decided that the holes were too large for a side gate (it would allow Tilly to wander off to the front which I much prefer her not to - with all the traffic).  There are actually 2 identical cut outs.  I decided to glue them together to brace it better.  Eventually it will hang in the front porch.  One of the walls look a bit bare and this will be a great addition to it.

Another door...

Spurred on by the previous door I made - I decided to build another one... for Ethan's existing bookcase.  Here it is painted a mushroom colour.  Needs trims (which I will need to buy) to make it look more 'finished'.  Hopefully next week I will get the chance to remodel his room once more to give me the opportunity to deep clean his room...

A door...

Remember the cupboard that I built earlier (Repurposed wood cupboard)?  It's now got a door.  Salvaged wood from around the place.  It's a good thing this building - my timber store (bits and pieces) is growing smaller.  It's a fine way of 'decluttering'.

Front porch re-do

Pots on either side of the bench need new plants and potting soil - that's for another day.
The front porch clean up and the new porch sign necessitated a shifting of furniture from the back porch to the front and vice versa.  A change is always good, especially when it's just a matter of re-utilising what's already there... it's like seeing things with new eyes... very satisfying.

Becoming real...

"What is Real?" asked Rabbit one day before Nana came to tidy the room.  "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn''t how you are made," said the Skin Horse.  "It's a thing that happens to you when a child loves you for a long, long time.  Not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful.  "When you are Real, you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse.  "You become.  It takes a long time.  That's why it doesn't often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.  Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair would have been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby.  But these things don't matter at all because once you are Real, you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Another project finished

Still needs a door and I still have a lot of panels leftover - thinking maybe built in shelving for the master bedroom?  Built from what I've had lying around...

Surprise Harvest

We've been getting loads of strawberries - tiny morsels but so sweet!  And the Panama Gold Passionfruit is fruiting well this year - with no possums nibbling on them.

Finished projects

The sign - to be hung on the front porch wall...

Finished pickets - needs a fence post on the end where the red plant is - it's terribly wobby as it is right now.  Not looking forward to digging a hole deep enough for a fence post though...

A frame and some leftover wood

A council pick up find from a year ago... add some tongue and groove pine panelling (also a council pick up find) and we have the makings of a sign...

Moving the pickets

Now that the chicken coop is no more, the pickets have been moved elsewhere...

To prettify the garden - still more to add to the 'fence'.

Garden maintenance

The garden shed with the overgrown Grevillia over its roof meant that cleaning it was always a problem due to the overhanging branches. So I decided to hack it back and clean the roof in the meantime.  An old photo from a while back.

Cleaned up - now to get rid of those prunings... into the Greens bin.

Companionship

I am ever so thankful for Tilly who keeps me company in my daily endeavours in the garden.  She's so nice to have around - even if it's just a cursory rub she gives me as she brushes past as a sign of affection.  I wonder what she makes of all the changes...

A few things...

Slowly a new garden is making an appearance... there is still much to do but with autumn in the air, I feel a renewed vigour within me.

Front Porch Clean Up

The 2 standard ficus that stood like sentinels beside the front door succumbed to a fungal root rot disease (or that's what I suspect) and didn't survive the spring/summer.  I had left them thinking that they might miraculously resurrect themselves.  One sort of did with a shoot from below but the stumps never did.  So they'll need to be replaced with something else... not sure what yet...

Garden Changes

The chickens have left us so the coop/run area needs modifications...Still want to keep the passionfruit vine though...

A Variegated corner...

Strawberry pot awaits new seedlings...

Some things haven't changed - the monster vine has returned although I think it's resurrected itself too late in the season to yield me any pumpkins...

The bunnies have departed as well... so I gave away their Chateau to someone on Freecycle.  This corner needs something...

Replacing this corner with new plantings... now that the chickens aren't there to dig them up.
