A Trip Down South 13

It was a lovely holiday for us as we bade farewell to..

Sandy shores...
Pebbly shores...
Glorious blue green seas...
Sand between our toes...
Crashing waves...

A Trip Down South 13

Eden... an old whaling town... we visited the Whale Museum...
The view was spectacular..
We couldn't help but take it all in...
Inside the whale museum - it was gruesome at junctures and sobering to think of how many of these wonderful beasts were hunted in the past...
The intriguing tale of how Killer Whales aided the Whalers in their hunt for Baleen Whales...
The bones of 'Old Tom' the leader of the pack of Orcas who aided the Whalers... I'm so glad Australia is now and Anti-whaling nation...

A Trip Down South 12

Reflection whether done with another...
Or on your own...
Is just as fulfilling for the soul...

A Trip Down South 11

The Twelve Apostles... huge craggy outposts of rocks hewn by decades of surf... standing like sentinels...
We arrived...
It was a cloudy day...
We marvelled...
It was a tad chilly!
And marvelled some more...

A Trip Down South 10

We left Melbourne to travel further south and embarked on the Great Ocean Road...

The famous Bells Beach...where Point Break was filmed...
Carefree abandon was a requisite...
To run wild in the pristine sand...
With only footprints as evidence of our presence...

A Trip Down South 9

No trip to Melbourne is complete without a visit to Tennis-dom Melbourne Park where the Australian Open is held... The rest of the family stayed home whilst I spent the day in 'Smurf Blue' heaven...

Lining Up to get in...
The garden courtyard...
Inside Margaret Court Arena...

A Trip Down South 8

A trip to Melbourne Zoo

We saw busy animals..
Watchful animals...
Playful animals...
Sleepy animals...
Often we felt like we were the ones being caged in!!
We took pictures and memories...
And made friends...

A Trip Down South 7

Sunday morning saw us wake up bright and early to visit a church with a difference. City On A Hill church is a church which has rented out Hoyts Theatre on Sunday mornings to run their service. It was an eye opening experience.

Friends David, Cindy and Matthew who had invited us to their church.  We caught up with them after the service over a cuppa and then had Vietnamese noodles for lunch after.

We decided to take a walk to the DFO in South Wharf that afternoon.

It was a lovely time bonding and spending down-time together as a family unit.

A Trip Down South 6

A really hot day in Melbourne meant that we sought refuge in Chadstone Shopping Mall...
We shopped and walked for most of the day

One of the really large stone features outside the mall...
We arranged to meet up with my cousin May who lives in Melbourne on the weekend.  She told us to meet her at Melbourne Central...

The dome like enclosure was quite spectacular.

As was the clock that chimed and had birds singing Waltzing Matilda at noon.

We had Claypot Rice and Noodles... it was lovely to catch up.

A Trip Down South 5

We arrived in Melbourne for a 7 day stint to catch up with family, friends and sight seeing - we had rented a converted church - St Bedes at Elwood (a stone's throw from St Kilda) - it was very reasonable and the hosts were friendly and lovely.

High ceilings with stained glass windows... and wainscotting...

Our bedroom downstairs...

The living/dining/kitchen... all with top of the line appliances and furnishings.

The sparkling kitchen and hallway which leads out...

Pip on the upstairs mezzanine level...

If only the walls could speak... such richness!

There's a little alcove upstairs off the kids' sleeping area for a study nook...

The original 'vestry' entrance of the church (now the laundry) which leads out to a little private courtyard...

The washing machine and dryer...

Exposed beams with skylights...

Little touches that made us feel so at home!

I love the cobblestone alleys in Melbourne!
