Busy because..

The ceiling of the rumpus and garage was sagging badly and coming off the rafters and we've had water damage (that has since been fixed)... so...

We had to empty out the rumpus... who would've thought we had so much stuff?

The ceilings came down - along with 30 years or so of dust... amongst other things... it's supposed to be all finished today ready for painting... I take my hat off to people who live through major renovations... the disruption to everyday living is phenomenal...

Mulberries - black and white

Frank brought home a colander full of black mulberries from someone's backyard... so I went ahead to make a 'preserve' for the first time... didn't add pectin so instead of it becoming clumpy and jam-like, it's more syrup like - yummy when used as a cordial mix (with fizzy mineral water).

Black mulberries in sugar cooking...

Our first crop of white mulberries from our 'tree' planted in the front yard... only 6... hopefully in the years to come we'll have more!  They don't look like much but boy are they sweet!

In memorium

1913-2012 - Rest in Peace Gong Gong (Tai Gong to the kids)

After the shuffle...

The tallboy moved and the drawers that used to reside in his built in wardrobes moved out so that the fan can sit on it.

Tallboy moved beside the bookshelves.

A little more shuffling...

Big boy went to camp this week so I thought about how to move furniture about using what was already there... since the big clean out of old toys (sold on ebay)... some furniture could be repurposed for other things... this is the before...

The fan needed a stand by the end of his bed... at the moment the tallboy is serving that purpose...

but I'm hoping to move it next to the bookshelf.  For some bizarre reason he never uses the fold down desk... he prefers to study on his bed... hence the moveable laptop table that performs the table function...

How time flies...

Heading into the last term of Pip's last year at Primary School... the parents have been asked to send in old photos to make up a slideshow for their Year 6 Farewell Night... and I came across these... how time flies... my baby is not a baby any more (says she wistfully)

Gardens By the Bay - in Singapore

Day 2 saw us taking a spin through the spectacular Gardens By the Bay...

Arriving at the Bay South Entrance

Marvelling at the tree sculptures with plants growing on the trunks aptly named 'Supertrees'

The whole garden utilizes environmentally sound means of cooling and watering...

We could see the Marina Bay Sands in the distance...

Because we arrived at around 11am, it was too hot to walk so we hopped onto one of the bus tours instead.

We saw terracotta elephants in the Indian Garden...

Rock sculptures in the Chinese Garden

The Skyway where you can get a birds' eye view of the gardens.

It's hard to take a bad picture really when you have so much beauty around you...

A pig topiary

Massive tree trunks touted to be more than 1000s of years old...

We decided to head into one of the Conservatories - Cloud Forest (Flower Dome was closed to visitors for maintenance work)
The lovely cool misty entrance...

Lush foliage and flowers from mountainous regions

Totems along the way up...

We walked the walkway at the top of the falls...

And yes it was freaky that we were up that high!!

Gorgeous offerings of orchids everywhere you looked... sigh...

We then walked across the Dragon Fly Bridge which adjoins the Marina Bay Sands...

Just in time for lunch and a local favourite - Ice Kachang to cool off...

A quick Singapore trip

courtesy of budget airline Scoot and the generosity of grandparents... Pip and I went to visit family in Singapore... on Day 1 we...
woke up bright and early to play with a hand-me-down toy...
did some shopping - and no... we decided against purchasing chapsticks with soft drink flavours...
Took a walk through the local market 'Pasar Malam'.
Caught up with cousins - and yes we did some dance moves...
We did share some 'down- time' in amongst the activities...
