Then... and... Now

Now and then, it's nice to reflect on what was... and is now...
Then...
and Now...

A more grown up quilt...

For a young man...

In subdued manly colours of course from old bedsheets and shirts.

The granny square quilt that I made for Ethan (seen on this post hanging on the washing line ) is just a tad too short - I didn't anticipate that he would grow taller than me! So this one will take its place whilst I dismantle it and add a few more rows of granny squares to 'lengthen it'.

A Self Managed and Planned Birthday

Pip planned the whole birthday from start to finish (and did all the prep work too!)

She baked cupcakes (and muffins) and decorated them
Larger muffins decorated with butterflies and hearts
Guests arrived - see the wool - she had plans for them...
Girls making friendship bracelets
Then off to the local park for a play in the gorgeous spring sunshine
Everyone had a turn on the flying fox...
Some had help to make it go even faster!
Everyone on board for a spin...
Then piling on the big swing...
We did stop to chat occasionally...
All her friends
Then back home to open presents and read funny cards...
The cake...turning 12 (1 big candle and 2 little candles)
We sang happy birthday...
Blew out the candles...
Took another pic with friends...
Then sat on mats in the backyard soaking in the sunshine til pick up time...

Everyone had a ball - it was the least stressful birthday party I had! Thanks to Pip!

It's sad when it has to come to this...

Last night when Frank and I decided to go on our night walk, we stopped in horror to see water gushing down the driveway. At first I thought there was a burst pipe but on further investigation noted that someone had turned the tap in our front yard on and had forgotten to turn it off. It wasn't just a drip... it was gushing... so I made a trip to Bunnings this morning to find a remedy...

Out with the old...

In with the new...

Refurbished garden tap in the front yard...

It's right by the pavement hidden amongst the azalea...

On a brighter note, one of my neighbours was tossing out these concrete edging sections.  I moved them to hold the mulch back... I think it needs a coat of paint to blend it in more...

Sleeping can be hazardous...

when you've outgrown the bed you used to sleep so snugly in.

Tilly reminding us that...

when on your journey...
take your time and take in the sights around you, even if it is a walk that you've done a million times before.

Just so...

I can't be accused of having favourites... Philippa gets a version of the 'Name within an exhortation'... hers was quite a lot harder to think up, but fun just the same...

An amp cover

Piecing it together

The finished product

With a handy lift up flap to access necessary knobs so hopefully it will discourage it from ever being removed whilst in use...

Electrical cables tamed with a shoebox

The bane of my life - the growing number of electrical items that a teenager possesses and the cables and all the paraphernalia that accompanies them.  My attempt to keep them tamed... with a shoebox - which conveniently has a hole already down the bottom.

I did have to make another hole on the opposite end for the powerboard cable. At least it corrals it all in the one spot and when you close the lid it keeps the dust off them.

A name with a difference...

What do you see?

Perhaps you can see it better at an angle?

Give Thanks... A gentle reminder to the one whose name resides within...

An exhortation for Ethan

After painting the room, it was an opportunity to provide more 'grown up' art on the walls.  I took out a bit of rough linen, stamped out a relevant verse and replaced the more childish cross stitch with this... I like it!

Musical furniture again...

The rumpus as it was a while back - can you see the 2 white cabinets in the laundry?
I moved 1 out (the other will follow at a later date) and re-organized the house again...

This old newspaper stand corrals the mail and catalogues

The problem with decluttering...

is that you end up with a mess in the interim whilst you're trying to sort out what to sell (on ebay), what to donate and what to toss out... hopefully this will be tamed somewhat in a week... just as well we're not expecting any guests staying with us for a bit...
