Council pick up salvaged treasure...

A timber box one of the neighbours were throwing out...

Salvaged and repainted white with the trimmings in black...inside needs attention - thinking maybe modge podge fabric

Finished - should be just the ticket to store fabric or wool

Had to replace some of the screws with new ones.

Little things...

The Rondeletia in our front garden is flowering - it has a delicate perfume but it's not great as a cut flower - the bunches wilt after 1-2 days.

A little clock added to the guest bedroom downstairs.

His birthday and his room

Happy birthday Ethan - 15 over the weekend.  Pavlova cake - unfortunately I didn't plan well enough to make it from scratch :(

Room re-organized after painting.  Shifted some furniture from other rooms... and I need to sew a cover for that amp, and sort out the cable mess under the bed.

Let's hope it stays this neat...

His new baby - music now fills the house again - howbeit from another genre...

I've been busy with...

Gala Dinner preparations... I'm glad it's over... there have been a lot of things put on hold due to the time I've had to put into it.  Made these origami boxes to hold up the pledge forms/envelopes/pens on the dinner table.

The days are getting warmer...

Tilly loves the setting sun - she basks on the outdoor table.  If you look closely you can just see the back end of Nutmeg enjoying the warmth too.

Painting Ethan's Room

Now that Pip's room is re-done, it was time to look into Ethan's room.  It needed a paint badly.

First up - move stuff out of the room - included taking things off the walls and patching up holes - good time to declutter at the same time - am hoping that nothing goes back into the room that doesn't need to.

Move big furniture into middle of the room - away from the walls

This was the best investment (and invention).  I saved this tub - which had long since been empty of its original paint.  Poured the paint for the room into it.  I like that the lid acts as a paint tray and the fact that once you're finished, you can just clip the lid shut and you're done.  Did 2 coats, now to wait for the paint to dry and reconfigure the room.

Our very own Olympic Cauldron

Courtesy of the recalcitrant youth in our neighbourhood...

This was in full blaze and with the wind that fanned it taking the embers across the lawn, it was quite scary at 1am Sunday morning (taken from our bedroom window the morning after)

The fire started from the top of the tree...
Then burnt down the dry fronds that encased the trunk...

Burnt lawn testament to the ferocity of the blaze.  The Fire Department was called but by the time they arrived, there were only embers to douse.
This pic was taken the day before - I was taking a picture of the new plantings in the front.  See the stakes on the left?  These were nowhere to be found after the fire.  My theory is the youth used them as fiery javelins aimed at the canopy of the palm tree... reminiscent of the Barcelona Olympics lighting of the cauldron...
On a more serious note, we were thankful that the wind carried the embers away from homes.  The gusty wind would've wrecked havoc had any of the homes caught alight.

Gardening in Winter

The Spirea bush that lived in the far left corner of the picture was starting to die back so I hacked it back real hard and tried to dig it out - to no avail... I was rather hoping to move the letter box into that spot so that it's not surrounded by foliage.  Where there's a hole in the middle of the Agapanthus is where the Mulberry tree will be...

The side of the driveway's been looking a bit sad since we removed the dying Bottlebrush.  Planning to move more of the Nadina bushes from another part of the garden and also some Dietes to fill it up a bit.

Another quilt to give away...

The first one was so well received that I hastened to start the second for another missionary couple who'd just had a baby girl and were planning to return to the field

This time in pinks and reds for a feminine touch

Quilting the panels

With my walking foot - it still skips stitches in parts...

Backed with the sweetest of cotton fabrics that I happened upon in a thrift shop (which providentially was the perfect size as a backing)

It does tell a story after all...

Don't the colours sing?

And the story leaves you with the option of 2 ways to live...

A little exhortation...

A stamp set I ordered from ebay arrived...

So I used it to...

embellish something with a friendly reminder...

slipped it back on the offender...

Because the Father up above is looking down in love...

Taking the tiger by the tail...

and finally moving the strawberries (or some of them anyway) to containers to free up the garden bed for other crops.
